Open letter to Outstanding Dumagueteño Awards 2025 Committee

Image
Good morning. I would like to raise a serious concern regarding the integrity of the Outstanding Dumagueteño Awards 2025 . It has come to my attention that Mr. Ian Casocot , who was a member of the selection committee , has also been named as one of the awardees.  In my observation, this situation presents a clear conflict of interest and raises serious ethical concerns . It is generally understood that one should not be both a judge and a recipient in the same process. Accepting such an award while serving as a selector compromises not only personal integrity but also casts doubt on the credibility and impartiality of the entire awards process . The public expects fairness and transparency in recognizing those who truly deserve this prestigious honor. But when the lines between nominator, selector, and awardee are blurred, how can the community continue to place its trust in the legitimacy of this recognition? I hope this concern is taken seriously and addressed w...

A Tribute to Dr. Tranquilino Valentino S. Sitoy Jr. Brilliant Mind, Humble Spirit, Eternal Mentor There are rare individuals whose lives seem to hold the light of many worlds—scholar, servant, teacher, theologian, historian, mentor, friend. Dr. Tranquilino Valentino S. Sitoy Jr. was such a soul, a luminary whose wisdom, humility, and humanity shaped generations across nations, disciplines, and faiths. His passing is not just the loss of an extraordinary educator, but the quiet fading of a constellation that once lit the minds and hearts of many.   On December 30, 2024, Negros Oriental joined the rest of the nation in commemorating the 128th anniversary of Dr. José Rizal's martyrdom. The day's events were a fitting tribute to the hero who sacrificed his life for the freedom of the Filipino people. Dumaguete City, the province's capital, hosted a series of activities that brought together local government officials, civic organizations, the youth, and the Knights of Rizal to honor his enduring legacy of patriotism, courage, and love for the Philippines.  The highlight of the celebration took place at the   Pant awan Rizal People’s Park along Rizal Boulevard, where a large crowd gathered in front of the towering 8-foot bronze statue of Dr. Rizal. Remollo, and Former Bais City Mayor Karen F. Villanueva, who was the guest speaker, paid their respects ...
