Negrosanon Scouts Shine at the Regional Scout Youth Forum and Humanitarian Action Workshop
Roxas City, Capiz – From March 14-16, 2025, the Visayan Scouts of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) actively participated in the Regional Scout Youth Forum and Humanitarian Action Workshop hosted by the Capiz Council at Filamer Christian University. This significant event brought together young leaders from the Eastern and Western Visayas regions to shape the future of Scouting and enhance their humanitarian skills.
The
delegation from Negros Oriental-Siquijor Council included CSE Queen Marie
Truno Ferraren, Josefino "Sir Penn" T. Larena Jr., and
Senior Scouts Jason Godwin Acosta and Jason Godsent Acosta from
Silliman University, along with Scott Jordan Dunque Libradilla from
Negros Oriental High School. Their participation contributed significantly to
discussions on leadership, policy-making, and the future direction of Scouting
in the Visayas region.
Strengthening Leadership and Humanitarian Efforts
Simultaneously,
CSE Queen Marie Truno Ferraren and Josefino "Sir Penn" T.
Larena Jr. attended the Visayas Humanitarian Action Workshop,
equipping themselves with vital skills to serve communities during emergencies.
Their commitment to community service was further reinforced by Mr. Leo D. Lao, who accompanied the delegation and
served as a resource speaker, sharing his expertise in disaster response and
humanitarian work.
Josefino
"Sir Penn" T. Larena Jr., who also serves as the Local Executive
Board member and Commissioner for Rover Scouting in the Negros
Oriental-Siquijor Council, received a well-deserved recognition. He was elected
as Vice President of the 2025-001 BSP Visayas Cluster Humanitarian Action
Corps Council and DRMM Visayas Cluster, a testament to his
unwavering dedication to Scouting and humanitarian service.
Notable Contributions and Leadership
The Humanitarian
Action Workshop was enriched by key speakers such as Mr. Broderick G.
Train, LT. Head of PDRRMO Antique Provincial Government, and Dr. Marvin
Nicer, Regional Scout Director for Visayas. Their insights provided Scouts
with a deeper understanding of disaster preparedness, emergency response, and
community resilience.
Additionally,
the Western Visayas RSYF 2025 was successfully led by Organizing
Committee Chairperson Sct. Joaquin Placido Domingo L. Mapa of the Negros
Occidental Council. Special acknowledgments were also given to Youth
Development Officer and Visayas Cluster Head, Dr. Marvin Nicer, and the Regional
Coordinating Office staff, including Sir Jon Oliver Balili and Sir
Borgie Panes Villavicencio.
A Vision for the Future
As the
BSP Negros Oriental-Siquijor Council prepares to celebrate its 75th
Diamond Jubilee, Scouts are called to become policymakers, navigating the
tides of change and steering their councils toward progress. This event has
reaffirmed the commitment of young leaders to build a future driven by leadership,
vision, and purpose.
