  Masonry, also known as Freemasonry, is a fraternal organization that traces its origins to the local fraternities of stonemasons, which were prevalent in Europe during the Middle Ages. The organization became more widespread in the 18th and 19th centuries, with the establishment of lodges in various parts of the world. In Negros Oriental, the first Masonic lodge was established in Dumaguete City in 1890. This was the Oriental Negros Lodge No. 33, which was under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Spain. The lodge was founded by a group of Spanish and Filipino Masons who were residing in the area at that time. In 1895, the Grand Lodge of the Philippines was established, and the Oriental Negros Lodge No. 33 became part of this new organization. Mt. Juan Dominado, a hero of World War II, was a member of the Organization of the 75th Infantry Regiment 7th Military District (Recognized Guerrilla). He was initially assigned as commanding officer of the 75th Infantry Regiment 7th Military District's Intelligence Section, S-2. He set up an intelligence network to cover the Japanese Forces occupied territory in the province of Negros Oriental. The guerrilla 4th combat squad under him intended to inform the family and citizens in Dumaguete of General Mac Arthur's ayuda (aid) to support the group's operations and the needs of the locals.   The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP)   conducted its first Capacity Building Training Workshop on Local History and Heritage last   9-10 August 2022 at Guy Hall of Silliman University in Dumaguete City.
