  On December 30, 2024, Negros Oriental joined the rest of the nation in commemorating the 128th anniversary of Dr. José Rizal's martyrdom. Major Juan Dominado

Juan Dominado, a hero of World War II, was a member of the Organization of the 75th Infantry Regiment 7th Military District (Recognized Guerrilla). He was initially assigned as commanding officer of the 75th Infantry Regiment 7th Military District's Intelligence Section, S-2. He set up an intelligence network to cover the Japanese Forces occupied territory in the province of Negros Oriental. The guerrilla 4th combat squad under him intended to inform the family and citizens in Dumaguete of General Mac Arthur's ayuda (aid) to support the group's operations and the needs of the locals. He organized the underground intelligence in the countryside of Negros OrienMajor Juan Dominado is one of the founders of the Amity Memorial Shrine, according to a manifesto dated December 24, 1976.   The Humanist Alliance Philippines, International (HAPI) is once again taking up the torch to continue championing human rights, particularly that of the LGBTQIA+ community, by holding a series of comprehensive activities celebrating Pride Month   in   June.
