128th Rizal Day Celebration in Negros Oriental: Honoring the Legacy of Dr. José Rizal

  On December 30, 2024, Negros Oriental joined the rest of the nation in commemorating the 128th anniversary of Dr. José Rizal's martyrdom. The day's events were a fitting tribute to the hero who sacrificed his life for the freedom of the Filipino people. Dumaguete City, the province's capital, hosted a series of activities that brought together local government officials, civic organizations, the youth, and the Knights of Rizal to honor his enduring legacy of patriotism, courage, and love for the Philippines.  The highlight of the celebration took place at the   Pant awan Rizal People’s Park along Rizal Boulevard, where a large crowd gathered in front of the towering 8-foot bronze statue of Dr. Rizal.   Introduction to Budbud Kabog Budbud Kabog, also known locally as Dawa, is a traditional Filipino cake made from kabog millet. The term "kabog" refers to the millet, which is milled to create this distinctive delicacy. The name "Budbud" refers to the cake itself, and its color, similar to that of a bat, gives the millet its name. Originating from Cebu and Negros Oriental   in the central Visayas Islands of the Philippines, Budbud Kabog stands out for its unique texture and flavor, which differ from the more common rice-based native cakes found throughout the Philippines. Traditional Preparation Method To prepare Budbud Kabog, fresh kabog millet is first rinsed thoroughly in two to three changes of water and then drained. Coconut milk is boiled in a pan until it slightly reduces, after which the kabog millet is added to the coconut milk. The mixture is stirred continuously for 30-35 minutes. One significant yet often overlooked episode of his journey occurred during his brief stop in Dumaguete on August 1, 1896, as he traveled from Dapitan to Manila. Flag Disposal Ceremony in Negros Oriental 2024

  Today, June 11, 2024, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, BSP Negros Oriental-Siquijor Council, held a solemn Flag Disposal Ceremony as part of the National Flag Week observance. In accordance with Section 14 of the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines (RA 8491), old and worn-out Philippine flags were respectfully burned to prevent misuse or desecration. This ceremony underscores the importance of honoring our national symbol and ensures that the flags, which have served their purpose, are retired with dignity. Council Scout Queen Marie T. Ferraren led the event, supported by Eagle Scouts and Scout Cezar Lopez, who served as the program host. Council Historian Rover Scout Penn T.
