Negros Pride Month 2022

  The Humanist Alliance Philippines, International (HAPI) is once again taking up the torch to continue championing human rights, particularly that of the LGBTQIA+ community, by holding a series of comprehensive activities celebrating Pride Month   in   June. Major Juan Dominado

Juan Dominado, a hero of World War II, was a member of the Organization of the 75th Infantry Regiment 7th Military District (Recognized Guerrilla). He was initially assigned as commanding officer of the 75th Infantry Regiment 7th Military District's Intelligence Section, S-2. He set up an intelligence network to cover the Japanese Forces occupied territory in the province of Negros Oriental. The guerrilla 4th combat squad under him intended to inform the family and citizens in Dumaguete of General Mac Arthur's ayuda (aid) to support the group's operations and the needs of the locals. TRAINING-WORKSHOP TO PROMOTE OUR LOCAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE

  The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP)   conducted its first Capacity Building Training Workshop on Local History and Heritage last   9-10 August 2022 at Guy Hall of Silliman University in Dumaguete City. This workshop aims to share the specialized skills and expertise with its local partners in solidarity with the recently adopted National Action Plan for Local History and Heritage Development 2022-2027 (Cebu Framework 2022-2027).  During the two-day workshop, NHCP resource persons will hold lectures on historiography, local history practice and professionalization, heritage survey and documentation, and materials conservation, which will be put into practical use by the workshop participants in field demonstration in Dumaguete City as part of the completion exercises.     Local tourism officers, architects, engineers, cultural officers, Historians, Writers, and Heritage and cultural workers of the different Local Govern...

Rizal Stopover in Dumaguete

 Rizal 18 hours visited Jose Rizal kept a diary of his activities during his exile in Dapitan City in 1896 and even after leaving the place for Manila, passing by several key places in the Visayas in early August of that year.   On his trip and on his way back from exile in Dapitan, it was rumored that he first stepped foot on the shores of Dumaguete and praised it as a town of kind people. Since there isn't much time to search the archives on that subject, it is difficult to establish this at the moment. 77th Liberation Day from Japanese Occupation Dumaguete

  77th Liberation Day Celebration of Dumaguete City is an event to commemorate the end of the Japanese Occupation of Negros Oriental      Sir Judge Rafael Crescencio Tan of the Sons and Daughters of the Veterans with Mayor Felipe Antonio B Remollo as GOHAS. Participated by members of 4th and 5th Dumaguete City Veterans Post VFP, SDAI VFP 2nd and 3rd Districts with Dumaguete City, Tanjay City, Bais City, and Valencia Chapters, 703RRBn Officers, and EP, 703CDC headed by Maj Alvin Aurel PA which provided the 3 volleys of fire, and with medical services rendered by 5051TASU 505TASG 5TASBDE headed by Major Kenneth T Coo MC (Res) after the ceremony.   The flag-raising ceremony and Liberation Day Program were held at Manuel Quezon Park with a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the Liberation Marker. Tommy Schultz

He was Artist  volunteer in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental Philippines ,and acclaimed travel and underwater photographer  in Asia.Tommy Schultz passed away on June 4, 2021 in his hometown in Winchester, Virginia. Through his work, Tommy championed ocean conservation for many years. He has donated photos and videos to CTC last year taken during the Epic 1 journey to the Forgotten Islands on the Seven Seas in November last year and some of his iconic photographs appears in our 2021 calendar. Tommy’s underwater photography career began during his service as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Dumaguete, Philippines where he worked on coral reefs. He then moved to Bali in 2007 while working for Photovoices International and later focused on freelance work, highlighting the beauty and diversity of the Indonesian archipelago.
